New WhatsApp Community

This will help you join the new WhatsApp community.

The new community is broken down into several groups that allow members to prioritise messages they want to be notified about while enabling them to review the other groups at their leisure. It will also stop posts from getting lost in unrelated chats in the single channel we now have.

There are a small number of types of groups: Restricted, Admin Only Posts and Open Channels

Restricted

These are closed groups and are limited to members of those club groups. The membership should be evident from their name, with people being removed from those groups when they no longer participate in those roles.

The Juniors group, while not yet confirmed, will also be moderated by the safeguarding officer and the Juniors committee rep.

Admin Only Posts

These groups will be used to keep everyone updated. Announcements is a default group we all get added to, and Events will be used to keep us up to date on internal and external events. Except for a predefined, minimal number of members with club-wide responsibilities, nobody can post in these groups. In Events, you can PM the coordinator, and in Announcements, you can reply to posts, but please keep it short and relevant.

Open Channels

There are only three; these are provided to allow us to segment chat into focused topics.

  • General – Anyone can post, and it represents the current single channel we have. It may get noisy, so if there is a more specific channel for your post, it will more likely get a response, as it won’t be overwhelmed with unrelated chat. If you aren’t sure this is your most likely destination, but don’t be offended if someone asks you to post it on another channel; it will take time to get used to the channels.
  • Kit Questions – If you want advice on what to buy, how to tune or do something like tying nocking points on your string, adjust brace height etc., this is the place to get advice
  • Competition results, records, and scores – We all want to hear how well everyone is doing, but it can overwhelm other chats, so let’s celebrate here. “I got my … 252” today should be equally worthy of being announced as an Olympic gold. 🙂

All channels should be strictly restricted to archery and club business.

An AUP must be accepted to join this community, and by joining it, you are declaring that you have read and have accepted that AUP.
